I recently purchased a few prints of 1920s tobacco ads done by Ludwig Hohlwein, an artist known for helping to develop a style called plakastil - or poster style - at the turn of the century in Germany. I was really taken by these, with their bright watercolors, interesting shading, and hand-lettered text.
